Caring for an Aging Undocumented Population: A Study from Illinois

Thursday December 10, 2-3pm CT (3-4pm ET, 12-1pm PT)

Undocumented older adults face pervasive barriers to health and wellness that impede their ability to age well in their homes and in their communities. As a result of their status, they are also blocked from health care services typically provided to older adults, and as a result, social workers, nurses, OT/PT, and other providers must come up with creative and innovative solutions to care for their patients.

In order to understand the needs and opportunities to better care for the aging undocumented community in Illinois, Rush commissioned a demographic report and convened a cross-sector collaborative of leaders in aging, healthcare, and immigrant services to discuss the direct practice and structural policy implications of our aging undocumented community. This CHaSCI Community webinar will describe the report, policy and practice implications, and how it has fueled expanded coverage to medical care among undocumented older adults in Illinois.

Presenter: Padraic Stanley, MSW, LCSW, Program Coordinator of Health Promotion & Disease Prevention for Rush University Medical Center’s Department of Social Work & Community Health, and Chair, Rush Immigrant Health Working Group

1.0 continuing education credits will be available to live attendees. (More details will be emailed upon registration.)
